Harada Lying About Heihachi Being Dead: A Review
Tekken 8 (PlayStation 5, 2024)
Heihachi is back!
Announced by Harada himself at this year’s EVO 2024 event, Tekken 8 will be graced by the finest character in the Tekken canon once again this fall, Heihachi Mishima. Rejoice!
Lying about something meaningless is so fucking funny
Tekken has “killed” Heihachi Mishima multiple times at this point, but the press tour Harada and the Tekken team did for this year’s game seemed to slam the door on the idea that the iconic patriarch of the franchise would return. Instead, he’s back not even a full year into the game’s launch window. It’s hilarious.
Okay but what are we doing?
Although I love Heihachi as a character, I was actually kind of curious about what a post-Heihachi Tekken actually looked like. Remember when Tekken 3 came out and did the time jump and most of the characters you loved from Tekken 2 suddenly weren’t there? Tekken 3 is by most accounts the most fondly remembered entry in the entire series for several reasons, one of which is the fact that the team took some serious risk! Far less risk was actually taken in Tekken 8, which is kind of disappointing!
7.8 / 10
Lying is a lot of fun when it doesn't hurt anyone, so I'm mostly having a blast with this news. Still, it leaves me wondering about the future of the series and how many risks big franchises are willing to take.
